Houston Waterfront Homes

As the largest city in the state of Texas, covering an area of more than 600 square miles, Houston is home to a thriving population of over 2.1 million residents. It is also the county seat of Harris County and part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area, which is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with a population of over 5.5 million.

The city of Houston was founded in 1836 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou. The city was named after General Sam Houston, who was the leading commander at the Battle of San Jacinto. Houston was officially incorporated on June 5, 1837. The popularity of Houston waterfront homes grew with the rapidly increasing port and railroad industry, in addition to the oil discovery that occurred in the area in 1901. As the economy of Houston surged, so did Houston waterfront real estate and the building of Houston waterfront homes.
